Rhinoplasty surgery is a method of reconstructing the nose permanently to improve its appearance. It’s also known as a “nose surgery” or a “nose job.” Dr. Vashisht Dikshit , the Board-certified Cosmetic Surgeon, is an expert in nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, which involves modifying a misshapen/injured/deformed nose into a proportionate, aesthetic one. The goal of a rhinoplasty is to change the size and appearance of the nose as well as improve any pre-existing functional flaws that accompany an altered nose. Sometimes rhinoplasty is performed to repair any damage caused by an accident or injury.
Understanding the anatomy of your nose is essential when we talk about rhinoplasty. The upper part of your nose is made up of bones and the lower part of your nose is cartilage. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to alter the bone, cartilage, and skin either individually or in combination in order to achieve good and natural-looking outcomes.

Types of Rhinoplasty Based on Procedure: Surgical and Non-Surgical Techniques
Open Rhinoplasty: Dr. Vashisht Dikshit will make an incision in the columella, which connects all relevant parts of your nose. The tip is then folded upwards to open up space for surgery and correct any imperfections within it. This type of procedure makes access easy because it is done directly through one opening at once - no need to go around as other surgeries might require.
Closed Rhinoplasty: Closed rhinoplasty is a much more delicate procedure than an open one. The incisions are made within the nostrils, so there will be no scarring and it’s difficult to see because of restricted tissue dissection.
Septoplasty: A septoplasty procedure aims to correct a deviated nasal passage and improve breathing.
You must fulfill the following criteria if you want a nose operation or type of nose surgery—
Dr. Vashisht Dikshit will go over all your medical history and explain the surgical procedure in detail during a consultation. The type of rhinoplasty is determined by taking into account the patient’s individual situation.
A physical examination is performed on the patient and his or her medical history, prior operations if any, and expectations for the procedure are noted.
Dr. Vashisht Dikshit ’s main focus is on patient safety and attaining the patients' goals for the final outcome. Dr. Vashisht places a high value on the consultation, looking at all aspects and concerns in order to provide the finest results possible.
Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery which means the patient is usually not hospitalized before or after the surgery. It can take them a few hours to recover from the surgery.
Here are the steps involved in the whole procedure:
The process usually involves administering general or local anesthesia along with intravenous sedatives. The doctor makes the best choice for each patient individually.
In the next step, Dr. Vashisht Dikshit makes the incisions. During the consultation, the type of surgery (open or closed) is decided. Depending on the type, an incision is made either externally or internally.
After that, Dr. Vashisht Dikshit reshapes the nose. The process involves one of the following: shortening or lengthening your nose; increasing or decreasing the size of your nose; widening or narrowing down your nose.
If the nose needs implants, Dr. Vashisht Dikshit will use the material which was decided upon during the consultation (silicone, cartilage, or bone).
Widening and narrowing the nostrils is done by adding or removing cartilage or bone within them.
Septal cartilage grafts are the most common method to improve the shape of the nose.
Rib cartilage can also be used. Filler injections and fat grafting may be used to smooth out wrinkles and cover up imperfections. This is done until Dr. Vashisht Dikshit achieves the desired shape of your nose.
A septoplasty is usually performed to straighten the nose and correct the breathing issues associated with a deviated septal cartilage. After the nose is shaped, the incisions are stitched up.
If rhinoplasty is done to reconstruct a damaged nose following an accident or to improve the nose’s functioning (like septoplasty surgery), insurance may cover it. If the surgery is only for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons, it will be considered cosmetic and hence not covered by insurance. The total cost of a rhinoplasty includes numerous elements like:
The fees for a rhinoplasty are determined by the sort of nose surgery performed, the approach utilized, the surgeon’s skill and experience, the location of the facility where the operation is performed, and whether or not it has been certified.
Book AppointmentSome benefits of rhinoplasty surgery are:
After the procedure, the inside of your nose is filled with gauze wick. A bandage is put on the outside part of the nose.
You may walk by yourself within eight hours and be released the same day or the next morning, depending on Dr. Vashisht Dikshit ’s assessment of your vitals. You must remain indoors for the first 48 hours after surgery.
At 48 hours after surgery, Dr. Vashisht Dikshit will change the dressing. Then, the gauze wick is removed. Dissolvable stitches mean there is no need for removal. They dissolve when they’re done healing. After seven days, the dressing is removed. For 10 to 14 days, the plaster must be worn.
The nasal area and surrounding region may initially appear swollen. Some people’s eyes might appear puffy. Dr. Vashisht Dikshit assures that this is not a problem because it is a normal response from the body after a medical procedure. The swelling will gradually subside over two weeks.
The swelling’s last stage is at the tip of the nose. After the swelling has subsided, you can see the final appearance of the nose, which might take up to 6 months in some cases.
Pigment buildup under the skin causes darkening of the whites of the eyes (or around the nostrils) in red, purple, and black spots. It will go away on its own after 3 weeks.
Sometimes, Dr. Vashisht Dikshit may prescribe pain medication. You must follow the doctor’s advice exactly. Dr. Vashisht Dikshit will also give specific instructions for treating the wound. These include taking a bath rather than a shower, limiting extreme facial expressions for at least a few hours, and avoiding strenuous exercise for at least a few weeks.
Routine checkups are necessary to ensure that the healing is being followed and results can be seen.
Here are a few of the infrequent risks that come with rhinoplasty:
Pain and swelling
Numbness in the nose
Infection
Poor healing or scarring
Pigmentation or discoloration on the nose
Breathing difficulties
Unsatisfying results
These risks are quite unusual, and the utmost care must be taken to ensure that they do not become a reality.
